T is for TitanicAt 11:40 p.m. on April 14, 1912, the fate of the world's most famous ship was sealed when the lookout on the luxury liner, RMS Titanic, spotted an iceberg in the ship's path in the North Atlantic.

By 2:00 a.m., the ship had started its slide into the frigid waters, carrying close to 1,500 people to a watery grave.

Although good for all ages, perfect for grades 4 - 8.

G is for Gladiator

According to Roman legend, what famous twins were raised by a she-wolf?
Who wrote the epic poem, The Aeneaid? What famous leader brought law and stability, yet was stabbed to death by a group of senators? Life in ancient Rome was certainly not for the faint of heart! In G is for Gladiator: An Ancient Rome Alphabet, readers are given an A-Z introduction to ancient Rome, including its social, political, and civil customs and practices.

Although good for all ages, perfect for grades 4 - 8.

From A to Z, you'll discover Tennessee's mountains, music, and mammals. V is for Volunteer stimulates children to learn about their state through familiar Tennessee icons like the Grand Ole Opry and Graceland. And even lifelong Tennesseans may learn something new about the Jubilee Singers and W.C. Handy.

D is for Drum

Say Daddy!"D is for Drum - A Native American Alphabet"
was honored with Learning Magazine's
"Social Studies Book of the Year" award.

Mother shares a book about love while Brother shares a book about friendship. Next Aunt Grace shares a book about adventure. Everyone in this family is eager to share books and have the newest member's affection and attention. But all kidding aside, this family knows the bond that is created when reading aloud with someone you love.

When Daddy closed the last page, he smiled at me for hours and said, 'Say Daddy! Say Daddy!' He hoped that would be my first word!

But wait. Did we hear correctly?

( here's a hint: it's NOT "Daddy!" )
"Say Daddy!" was the NAPPA Gold Medal winner for 2008

Presentations: I cover the ENTIRE writing process from idea to publication. The older the group, the more I stress revision and persistence. My presentations have a VERY High Energy Level!!! My motto is "Reading IS Magic" and I usually begin an author visit with a magic trick. This is not possible over Skype as the digital aspect steals the impact :-\

Audiences: About 95% of my audiences are Pre K - Fifth. I do middle school presentations, but I believe teachers at that level think all alphabet books are for lower lever readers. NOT TRUE! My books are written for an AR reading level of about sixth grade. "Titanic" & "Gladiator" are most appropriate for middle school students.
