Marsha enjoys speaking at conferences and writer’s workshops. She has been on the faculty of the Oregon Coast Writer’s Workshop as well as a speaker at many conferences, including California Reading Association, Reading the World, California State Library Association, West Coast Literacy Conference, and regional SCBWI events.
Among Marsha’s many honors are Ridgeway Award for Best First Book, state Children’s Choice awards, IRA Distinguished Book, Family Choice Award, and Smithsonian Notable Book. The media has referred to her as “a born storyteller” and “the writer of children’s books adults can’t wait to read to their kids and grandkids.” Educators have called her a “true literary artist” whose books show “warmth and respect for one’s self.”
